April 2016 Newsletter

A few important things to let you know about this month:

Upcoming Events

Our next talk will be “Post Separation Parenting: A psychotherapist’s perspective on the impacts of divorce on children and strategies to deal with parents in high conflict situations”.  It will be given by Susanna Abse, Chief Executive of the Tavistock Centre and will take place on Wednesday 11 May 2016 at Collyer Bristow, 4 Bedford Row WC1R 4TF.  I am expecting this to be a really interesting talk that is relevant to all our members and I look forward to seeing lots of you there.

London YRes Committee

We have three places coming available on the London YRes committee this summer and are looking for new members from a spread of backgrounds, practice areas and experience levels to ensure that the committee is representative of the members we serve.

If you are interested in joining the committee please email me by 31 May 2016 with (short) answers to the following questions:

  1. What areas of family law do you practice (broken down by percentage)?
  2. What do you believe you can bring to the London YRes committee?
  3. If you could improve one thing about YRes, what would it be and why?

Please note that as a general rule we try to avoid having more than one person from any given firm on the committee at one time.

A decision will be made in June.  If you have any questions do let me know.

As part of our current reflections on the role of the London YRes committee we have prepared a short survey to get your thoughts on what we do well and what new things you would like us to do.

A copy of the survey can be found at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/66KLQR8.

It will only take a couple of minutes to complete and will help us ensure that future events meet the needs of all our members.  Please do give it a quick look if you can.

Finally, if you are attending the Resolution annual conference in Newcastle next week, don’t forget to attend the YRes drinks reception at 7pm on Friday evening and the YRes workshop (“Tips from the top: senior practitioners’ tips on how to be the perfect junior lawyer”) on Saturday afternoon.  Full details can be found at http://bit.ly/1Rvn5pF.

I will be there, as will several other committee members.  If you haven’t met me, and particularly if you are new to YRes, do feel free to come and introduce yourself.  I look forward to meeting you.
